For over 50 years, St. Anthony Village High School has been honoring an outstanding female athlete through the Athena Award program. The Athena Award recognizes a senior female athlete based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports. This year, SAVHS is proud to award this honor to Josie Bossen.
Josie is a three-sport captain, participating in diving, gymnastics, and track & field. She has made multiple trips to state in both diving and gymnastics, and will be one of the team’s top field athletes this upcoming track season, competing in the triple jump and pole vault events.
This past fall, Josie was the Class A State Diving runner-up and she broke the school record in the 11 Dive. She also made a trip to state during her junior season (2023) and has been named to the All-Conference Team three times.
In gymnastics, Josie recently made her third trip to state, competing on bars. She has numerous awards in gymnastics, including All-State Honorable Mention honors, All-Section awards, and All-Conference nominations.
Josie was unable to compete in track last season due to injury, but she still served as a captain, helping teammates during practices and competitions. She was especially helpful to the pole vault athletes, which is her specialty event. She is hoping to return to competition this season.
Bossen will be recognized for her accomplishments on Friday, May 2nd at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center during the annual Minneapolis Athena Award Luncheon.
