Boys Swimming & Diving 2020-21 Handbook
Welcome to the 4th season of Huskies Swimming and Diving! We are a co-op team of DeLaSalle, St. Agnes, and St. Anthony Village. We are a part of Section 4A. Teams from 4A include: Fridley, St. Thomas Academy, Minnehaha Academy, Columbia Heights, MLPS Edison, MLPS Patrick Henry, MLPS Roosevelt, St. Paul Humboldt/Washington, St. Paul Como, South St. Paul, and St. Paul Johnson.

Coaching Purpose Statement
We coach to provide an environment where athletes are able to learn new skills while providing sets that are both fun and challenging to engage growth both physically and mentally. Overall, our goal is to develop thoughtful and hard-working athletes both in and out of the pool.
Eligibility
- In order to swim for the Huskies, you must complete and turn in the proper paperwork from the athletic office. You cannot practice if you have not completed registration. No exceptions.
- A physical exam is required the first year of participation and every three years thereafter. The physical form must be completed by a physician and submitted to the athletic office prior to participation.
- Read and sign this handbook by 11/25/2021, athlete will not be eligible to participate until signed and dated by athlete and parent/guardian
- As an athlete you are agreeing to adhere to MSHSL rules
Expectations
- Athlete must be in grades 7-12
- Athlete attends all practices on time (M-F 4:00-6:30 PM, Sat.(Varsity Only) 8-10 AM)
- Athlete is open to learning new skills to improve swim technique
- Athlete is making academic progress toward graduation
- Athlete makes coaches aware of pre-existing injuries and any injuries that occur outside of practice. Athletes understand they will need clearance from the athletic trainer or by a licensed medical professional to return to practice for pre-existing injuries, injuries occurring outside of practice, and injuries during practice.
- Athletes remain on deck, at all meets, until each meet is concluded.
- Athletes respect themselves, teammates, coaches, and opponents.
- Parent/Guardians are responsible for picking up their child(ren) from practice and meets in a timely manner.
- Swimmers commit to the full season and enjoy the ride!

- A weekly email(s) will be sent to athletes and parents for updates.
- It is the athlete’s responsibility to be in communication with the coach.
Attendance
- Excused absences: religious, family emergency, sick, mental health (Coach needs to be notified)
- Missed practices will be unexcused unless prior approval. If you skip practice (you did not inform your coach) the number of events you swim will decrease and you may lose the potential to letter.
- You are ineligible to compete in a meet if you are absent from absent from school the day of the meet. It is the coach’s discretion on competing in a meet.
*IMPORTANT NOTE
DeLaSalle, St. Agnes, and St. Anthony Village High School will not tolerate any bullying, chemical use or misconduct in the school or the community. If there are any violations of the Minnesota State High School League rules regarding chemical or drug use or conduct in the school or community during the season, the athlete will be penalized and will not letter. There will be no exceptions.
Meet Day Transportation
Practices will take place at St. Anthony Village High School, which is our home pool. The bus for away meets will pick our team up from SAVHS. All boys are expected to ride the bus to and from away meets unless a prior wavier has been filled out and given to a coach due to Covid-19 concerns. If you have an outstanding reason for needing to ride home with a parent/guardian (and only with a parent/guardian), your coach will need a handwritten note or email from your parent/guardian. Boys can then be picked up from SAVHS after our bus returns, please be on time.
Meet Day Etiquette
- All athletes must be at the pool on time, suited up, and ready to warm-up before the start of the meet.
- Athletes will not have cell phones or homework out during meets.
- Athletes wear team apparel during the meet.
- Always bring your team suit and a back up suit, along with: caps, goggles, towel, and warm clothes for the pool deck, and water to every meet.
- After the meet, swimmers need to complete cool down as a team and then clean up the pool/bench area.
